Sheng-Yen Lu Foundation Awards $227,500 in Grants to Seattle-Area Nonprofit Organizations
Redmond, WA – Sheng-Yen Lu Foundation (SYL Foundation) held a grant award ceremony on September 15, 2011 at Lynnwood Convention Center attended by over 3,000 people, including many leaders in the Asian American community. A total of $227,500 in grant funds was distributed to fifteen nonprofit organizations working to improve health and education for all.
The eight recipients of education grants were 826 Seattle, City Year, Powerful Schools, Renton Area Youth & Family Services, Technology Access Foundation, The College Access Project, Treehouse, and Year Up. The grants fund programs targeting early education, college readiness and STEM (Science Technology Engineering Math) education.
The seven Healthcare grant recipients were Crisis Clinic, HealthPoint, Jubilee Reach Center, Kin On Community Health Center, Neighborcare Health, Smile Partners and Youth Eastside Services. SYL Foundation supports programs that assist the uninsured and most vulnerable in our communities receive quality medical and dental care. The grant funds support uncompensated care at community health centers and fund mobile dental and medical programs serving low income families.
In just four years time since its creation, SYL Foundation has distributed over $900,000 in health and education grants, international disaster relief aid, and scholarships.
