Founder, Living Buddha Lian Sheng

The Living Buddha Lian Sheng (Sheng-Yen Lu) is the spiritual leader and founder of the True Buddha School, with a following of more than five million disciples worldwide.  There are over 300 chapters of the True Buddha School in the world, 28 of which are in the United States.

The Living Buddha resides in the Seattle area and often teaches at the Ling Shen Ching Tze Temple in Redmond.  He is a prolific writer with over 250 books in print, some of which have been translated from Chinese to English and other languages.  Exemplary of the all-embracing notion of Buddhism, Living Buddha Lian Sheng’s religious background includes Christianity, Taoism, Sutrayana and Tantric Buddhism.

President, Fo-Ching Lu

Prior to her return to the Seattle area, Fo-Ching was Intellectual Property Counsel and Director for Chanel in New York and then in Geneva, Switzerland, where she was head of the legal group.  Her professional background includes work at the Association for the Help of Retarded Children (AHRC) and the New York Legal Assistance Group (NYLAG, providing free legal services to low-income individuals), both nonprofit organizations in New York City, as well as Intellectual Property attorney work at Greenberg Traurig LLP.  She currently serves on the board of the Asian Bar Association of Washington.

Fo-Ching received a Bachelor of Science degree from Santa Clara University, a Juris Doctorate from Yeshiva University, where she was Articles Editor of the Cardozo Law Review, and a certificate in Nonprofit Management from University of Washington.  She is a licensed attorney in New York and Washington.

Secretary, Fo-Chi Lu

Fo-Chi began his career in the banking industry with Bank of America.  He then owned and operated a retail business where he honed his knowledge of bookkeeping and business administration.  Currently, Fo-Chi is bookkeeper and accounts manager for Yen Li LLC.

Fo-Chi holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Management from Seattle University.

Director, Dexter Kuah

Dexter is a Senior Software Engineer with Tideworks Technology Inc. based in Seattle. He is experienced in business programming and systems analysis. With his technology savvy background, Dexter is currently overseeing the Foundation’s website development and maintenance.

Dexter received a diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Ngee Ann Polytechnic in Singapore, a Bachelor of Science degree from University of Wisconsin and a Masters degree in Software Engineering from Seattle University.

Director, Teresa Piersa

Teresa currently works for a certified public accountants firm in Los Angeles. She was previously Vice President – Controller of Finance for the Hyatt Hotel Corporation’s music subsidiary in Beverly Hills. Additionally, Teresa has been a volunteer accountant for True Buddha School and Lotus Light Charity Society since 1996. She has helped numerous temples and True Buddha School chapters worldwide set up accounting systems, prepare financial statements for audits, file nonprofit information tax returns, and obtain U.S. IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit tax exemption status, property tax exemption and trademark registrations.

Teresa received her degree in Accounting and Statistics from National Taichung Institute of Technology in Taiwan and has completed post graduate accounting courses at University of Washington and UCLA. She is also a Certified Grants Specialist with the National Grant Writers Association.

Director, Heather J. Edlund

Heather is the Director of Curriculum for Bellevue School District.  She has served as Principal of Lake Hills Elementary School and Enatai Elementary School in Bellevue, Washington.  She previously worked in the Bellevue School District Curriculum Department as a Technology Curriculum Coach.  In that capacity she facilitated professional development and coached teachers at the individual, school, and district level. She was also a kindergarten, first, and fifth grade teacher at Medina Elementary School.

Heather received a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Education from University of Washington.   She holds administrative credential and elementary school certification from University of Washington as well as a National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Certification as Early Childhood Generalist.

Director, Kevin Klingbeil

Kevin Klingbeil is owner and managing member of Klingbeil Law Office, PLLC and Big Water Consulting. He has a diverse background working in the governmental, nonprofit, and private sectors spearheading program development and management.

Kevin received a Bachelor of Arts from University of Missouri, a Juris Doctorate from University of Washington, and an LLM in International Trade Regulation from New York University. He is a licensed attorney in Washington and Colorado.

Treasurer, Andrew Roberts

Andy is a commercial and residential property manager and licensed real estate broker with Coldwell Banker Bain.  His professional background includes sales and account managing for a New York seafood company as well as human resource management for the Boeing Company.  Andy also served as a United States Peace Corps Volunteer in Kenya where he was a small enterprise developer.

Andy received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration and Human Resource Management from Washington State University.  He also completed the graduate program at New York University’s Real Estate Institute.

Program Manager, Rachel Allen

Rachel is originally from Boston but has lived in the Seattle area for the last 22 years.  She worked in non-profit administration with a focus on services to children, youth, and families before making the transition to grantmaking as the Program Officer at the Laird Norton Family Foundation.

Rachel attended Harvard College and received a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of California at Berkeley.
